French high jewellery and jewellery at BaselWorld 2010

23 February 2010

Over 80 French watches, high jewellery and jewellery brands will attend BaselWorld 2010, introducing their new creations, presented by 47 manufacturers.

Key trends this year are as follows for Jewellery and High Jewellery:

- Abstract, geometric, stylised, figurative…Jewellery is perfect for all interpretation and can take on a multitude of forms. Nature (flora, leaves, fauna) and the elements (earth, water, fire, air) are the most favoured sources of inspiration. Other fashionable themes are architecture and dressmaking (lace, ribbons, bows, etc.).

Roure, Bellon, SFM

- White metal (platinum, gold, silver) and pink gold still maintain their favoured position in collections, but yellow gold is enjoying a comeback. This precious metal, the privileged partner for gemstones and pearls, is today daring association with enamel lacquer and resin (thanks to their infinite palette of colours) as well as ceramic and crystal.

- Necklaces take pride of place and increase in volume… Plain or openwork breast-plate style chokers, long necklaces with multiple strings or set with stones, juxtapositions of different lengths of chains, links in different sizes, colours and shapes, waves and waterfalls of pearls, “tumbling” necklaces… Pendants are also returning to the fore.

Cristofol, Mathon, Oteline

- Rings this season are voluminous and luxurious. Cocktail rings with a large central stone, flower rings, geometrical creations with several layers, large round or "wave" links paved or set with white or two-tone diamonds (white and black), coloured gemstones, pearls and more.

Ted Lapidus, Cobra, Perroud

- Flexible or rigid, bracelets are also enjoying a diverse approach: larges cuff bracelets both plain and openwork (arabesques, curls, lace work), set with stones or not, fine chains interspersed with medallions, pearls, stones, charms; decorated bangles, shank bracelets and bangles with several levels, etc.

Diamanti, Waskoll, Pacoma

- Earrings: tumbles of stones, long straight chains, large round hoops or waves and sleepers illuminate and highlight the face.

- Brooches are also making a comeback: flowers, butterflies, dragonflies, hearts and bows brighten up dresses, jackets and outfits.

Rochet

- Men’s jewellery is highly sought after with a growing number of collections in a great variety of styles and shapes. The range of materials is diverse: gold, silver, steel, diamonds, mother-of-pearl, onyx, lacquer, titanium, carbon, leather, resin…

The French jewellery participation at BaselWorld is organised by the French Federation of Jewellery, High Jewellery and Silverware (FFBJO)
