Jewellery watches: a selection

Dressing time in its finest attire: in this non-exhaustive selection, we highlight timepieces that combine precision and creativity with precious stones.

VACHERON CONSTANTIN X YIQING YIN ÉGÉRIE THE PLEATS OF TIME CONCEPT WATCH

A pink gold case set with diamonds, a lilac mother-of-pearl dial adorned with a pleated pattern, an original strap with an haute couture look, woven with fine embroidery and mother-of-pearl fragments. Yiqing Yin called on master perfumer Dominique Ropion to design an exclusive fragrance, encapsulated in the strap, which is released randomly as the wrist moves.

VAN CLEEF & ARPELS LADY ARPELS BRISE D’ÉTÉ

Celebrating the freshness of a summer’s morning, this new creation brings flower petals to life in the Van Cleef & Arpels garden. White and yellow gold butterflies in plique-à-jour enamel indicate the time, and fly away thanks to a module that springs to life on demand. The flowers and stems also move in sympathy.

CARL F. BUCHERER MANERO TOURBILLON DOUBLE PERIPHERAL LIMITED EDITION

Beyond the dial, available in distinctive blue, green, and purple finishes, the eye is drawn to the eye-catching bezel set with 40 baguette-cut gemstones – either 5.1-carat sapphires, 4.7-carat tsavorites or 3.5-carat amethysts, depending on the model. The bezel gems are hand selected to match the colour of the dial.

BULGARI LUCEA

The Lucea jewellery watch collection celebrates its tenth anniversary in style. Rose gold and steel harmoniously combine for the case and bracelet, with diamonds on the bezel and for the applied hour markers.

ZENITH CHRONOMASTER SPORT

Zenith presents the fanciest iteration yet ofthe Chronomaster Sport, crafted in a radiant rose gold case and bracelet, with a dazzling bezel featuring expertly set baguette-cut white diamonds, black spinels and grey as well as blue sapphires.

F.P.JOURNE TOURBILLON SOUVERAIN SET WITH DIAMONDS – CALIBRE 1519

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of this iconic wristwatch, F.P.Journe has developed a tourbillon whose orientation is vertical, rather than the traditional horizontal cage. This vertical tourbillon with remontoir d’égalité and deadbeat second makes one revolution every 30 seconds. Platinum case set with 93 baguette diamonds VVS1 F/G 22.50 carats.

CHANEL J12 ATELIER COUTURE AUTOMATE CALIBRE 6

With the J12 Atelier Couture Automate Calibre 6 watch, Chanel demonstrates its watchmaking virtuosity, showcases its aesthetic signatures and displays creativity and humour centred around the animated figure of Gabrielle Chanel herself, in her workshop (read Europa Star 2/24 for a full review).

HERMÈS ARCEAU GRAND TRALALA

Diamond-set rose gold 34 mm diameter case. Galvanic black dial with applied elements in rose gold close-set with diamonds. Mobile small seconds at 6 o’clock in the shape of a horse bit. Manufacture Hermès H1912 movement. Smooth black alligator strap with rose gold pin buckle.

CHOPARD IMPERIALE

The eponymous collection stylishly combines the various skills of the Maison’s artisans, mingling artistic crafts with horological prowess. The latest timepiece in the collection is no exception: at the heart of the 36 mm-diameter case in diamond-set ethical 18K white gold beats the Chopard 96.17-C movement powering displays on a dainty mother-of-pearl and enamel marquetry dial.

PIAGET LIMELIGHT GALA BY SHAMSA ALABBAR

A leading figure in the contemporary Arabic jewellery world, since 2013, Shamsa Alabbar has been transposing the ancient codes of the Arabian Peninsula into a series of graphic pieces in which calligraphy and typography take on a new dimension. Framed by gold and diamonds, this is the image the designer has chosen for the dial of a limited-edition Limelight Gala watch.

HUBLOT SPIRIT OF BIG BANG 32 MM JEWELLERY

Master gemsetters have worked their magic on these new 32-mm cases, enveloping them in light or transforming them into rainbows. On the Spirit of Big Bang Jewellery Rainbow, 493 gemstones reveal a resplendent rainbow, featuring 58 rectangular baguette-cut gemstones set around the bezel. Crafted in King Gold – the Manufacture’s 18K gold alloy, warmer than 5N gold.

LOUIS VUITTON TAMBOUR SLIM VIVIENNE JUMPING HOURS SAKURA

Louis Vuitton chose a pastel colour palette for this Sakura – “cherry blossom” in Japanese – model. The white gold case with its diamond-studded lugs frames the iridescent Monogram flowers on the surface of its pink mother-of-pearl dial. To create this floral pattern, Louis Vuitton artisans used the “Holomonogram” technique, which consists of sand-polishing pearl to achieve high-contrast yet transparent motifs.

JAQUET DROZ POCKET WATCH AUTOMATON - PARROT REPEATER

It took a whole year and no fewer than ten Jaquet Droz artisans to bring this unique piece – the Pocket Watch Automaton Parrot Repeater – to life. The case has been entirely hand-set and hand-painted, both on the dial side and the back, and features a secret mechanism (for which two patents were filed) in an opening hidden within the bow. The case has 1240 hand-set jewels, including 486 emeralds, 727 sapphires and 16 rubies.

BREGUET REINE DE NAPLES 8918

The Reine de Naples collection embraces a palette of soft colours. After pink, grey and white interpretations, the line welcomes a timepiece in mint green. The dial of this new version, in white mother-of-pearl, features a sparkling chapter ring crafted using the snow-setting technique. The inner flange and bezel are adorned with 117 diamonds, while the crown is topped with a briolette-cut diamond.

TAOS BRODERIE

This new brand combines the skills of renowned Genevan dial maker Atelier Olivier Vaucher with the passion of watchmaker Olivier Gaud. Each watch is one-of-a-kind, each dial a work of art. On the Broderies piece, hundreds of strands of molten enamel are laid out like so many strands of silk on lace. The trompe-l’oeil is perfect, the impression of depth unique, and the detail surprising.

CARTIER PANTHER JEWELLERY WATCH

The Maison’s emblematic animals – charismatic, untamed – have made their presence felt in Cartier watchmaking since the panther’s coat first graced a watch case in 1914, as showcased once again by this new jewellery timepiece. Case, dial, bracelet and panther head set with sapphires and brilliant-cut diamonds (12.1 cts), pear-cut emerald eyes, onyx nose. Rhodium-finish white gold.
