Haute Joaillerie houses at The Biennale des Antiquaires

August 2016

From September 10-18 The Biennale des Antiquaires will turn Paris’ Grand Palais into one of the world’s most exquisite ephemeral museums.

18

One of the most anticipated artistic and cultural events of the season, the Biennale des Antiquaires will, over the course of ten days fill the Grand Palais with masterpieces from Old Master to Modern, antiquities, décor and design, haute joaillerie, and objet d’art nonpareil, turning the venue in to a setting that is nothing short of extraordinary.

The presence of four international Haute Joaillerie houses: Boghossian Jewels (London & Brussels), Cindy Chao The Art Jewel (Taipei, Taiwan), De Grisogono (Switzerland), and Nirav Modi (India) – symbols of a global dynamic, with young, independent talents embodying the finest in Haute Joaillerie.

The artistic influence of the East and its association with Western culture is of major interest to Boghossian Jewels (London & Brussels) – a sixth-generation haute joaillerie family who combines Armenian, Persian, Syrian, and Byzantine influences with Western aesthetics. At the heart of their creations is a resplendent dialogue between Eastern and Western cultures – a key element that is also found at the core of the Boghossian Foundation in Brussels and its discourse addressing bonds between the two cultures and its public art exhibitions dedicated to decorative and contemporary art.

In a jewellery box that promises to break and redefine the classic codes for jewellery presentation, Peruvian-born, New York-based interdisciplinary light sculpture artist Grimanesa Amorós will realize the haute joaillerie booth for Cindy Chao The Art Jewel (Taipei). Chao makes her first appearance at the Biennale this year and will present to the public for the first time the “Black Label Masterpieces” – her most prestigious and exclusive line that includes previously unreleased pieces to be unveiled exclusively at the Grand Palais this September.

Nirav Modi (India) will reinvent the splendor of jewelry from the Maharajas – as illustrated by a necklace made of 870 carats of emeralds and 146 carats of diamonds. Modi makes his debut at this year’s Biennale not only as an exhibitor of haute joaillerie, but also as a collector and one of the most influential and respected entrepreneurs on the Indian subcontinent.
