GemGenève opens two creative initiatives to the next generation

For its 2027 edition, GemGenève is broadening two educational projects: the Photomicrography Contest welcomes gemmology schools and students from around the world, while Laura Inghirami x GemGenève opens its doors to all Italian jewellery schools, inviting students to explore the theme “Jewellery & Values”.

rom the hidden landscapes within gemstones to the personal convictions expressed through jewellery, two initiatives at GemGenève 2027 will give emerging talent an international platform. Both encourage students to develop their own perspective, combining technical skills with creative expression.

Following the success of its first three editions, the Photomicrography Contest returns with an invitation to gemmology schools and students worldwide. Participants are asked to reveal the hidden beauty of gemstones through the microscope, transforming scientific observations into compelling photographic compositions.

Twenty finalist photographs will be selected, printed and exhibited throughout GemGenève 2027, introducing visitors, collectors, designers, gemmologists and jewellery professionals to the students’ work. The finalists will also compete for four distinctions: the People’s Choice Prize, the Young Eye Award, the Technical Mastery Award and the Jury’s Favourite Award.

Entries opened on 1 September 2026 and will close on 28 February 2027. The finalists will be announced on 10 March 2027.

Alongside this exploration of gemstones, Laura Inghirami x GemGenève is expanding its reach to all Italian jewellery schools and their students. Under Inghirami’s creative direction, the 2027 edition centres on “Jewellery & Values”, asking participants to consider a belief, principle, idea or personal conviction that matters to them.

The challenge is to translate that value into a unique piece of jewellery: an original design that gives tangible form to a personal perspective. Selected creations will be presented at GemGenève, allowing the next generation of Italian jewellery designers to share their work with an international audience.

Together, the two projects offer complementary approaches to discovery and expression, inviting students to look more closely at gemstones and to consider what jewellery can communicate.
